Endometriosis Awareness takes place across the globe during the month of March. In some countries it is for one week (4 -10 March 2013) – but it can also be for the duration of the month. Endometriosis.org
An awareness month is so important for this disease because even though an estimated 176 million women suffer from Endometriosis, it is often poorly understood and mistakenly categorised as “painful cramps”. It still takes an average of 8 years to be diagnosed with endo once symptoms are experienced. And some women may experience pain in the pelvic area, but accept this pain (which is only one of the symptoms of endo), as a “normal” part of life.
Endometriosis can have a debilitating effect on a woman’s quality of life due to the painful symptoms, it is the biggest cause of infertility in women, and it carries a huge personal and societal cost! – Endometriosis.org
Creating greater awareness of Endo should be done all through the year, but let’s give it an extra push in this our awareness month. Wear yellow and spread the word!
