Shereen’s Story

Read Shereen’s Endo Story below…
Well I can remember the first time I started having my period I was in total pain, and that was when I was 12 yrs old, and I have been in pain ever since. I went to numerous gynae’s telling them of my symtoms, and everyone had a different theory of what it might be that was causing my pain.

Finally, I decided to stick to one doc who sent me to do an xray which revealed that I had a cyst growing on my left ovary, but ironically I was feeling pains mostly in my right pelvic area.

I had surgery to remove that cyst and was placed on Lupron depot (the injection) for six months. I however noticed that I was still having those excrutiating pains even after surgery and treatment, so I kept going back to the gynae who told me that I might have endometriosis, but she didn’t even recommended that I had a laparoscopy test done to confirm her theory.

All of this happened between 2001 and 2004.

I literally gave up, until a cousin of mine told me to try the gynae clinic at UWI, which I did. I was sent to do the laparoscopy test and that was when it was revealed that I had stage 4 Endo and needed to do surgery.

Shereen thanks for sharing your story. Your situation is all too common and we hope to help change that by properly educating the public and medical professionals unfamiliar with Endo.

Let us know if you’ve scheduled the surgery and how you are doing now!
