Simone’s Story

Read Simone’s Endo Story below…
sim-1My first period started at 13 years old. I had really bad acne through adolescent. Along with my skin issues I had really heavy periods that lasted 7 days. At that time I didn’t know it was a condition I had that affected my menstrual cycle. In 2008 I was hospitalized at a public hospital from a ruptured cyst on my right ovary. It was then I was diagnosed with endometriosis. I was placed on a waiting list. it has been over 2 years and I have lost interest in waiting.

I went to another gynae at a private Centre, but surgery is 300,000, which I cannot afford. I was given an alternative which is an injection for 6 months which would shrink the endometriosis but that too is quite expensive.

I have written to companies for assistance, nothing came up. I suppose companies in jamaica aren’t too keen in helping people.

I am not sure of the stage of my endo but whenever it acts up, I got fluid coming from my belly button and a constant swelling above my right hip. Living with the constant pain is difficult because it affects my mood and how I function in my every day life. I am now accustom to doing multiple ultrasounds and hearing about the cysts on my ovaries.

I am now 32 years old and for the past 2 years I have to be on contraceptives with a break after every 3 months. I would love to have a child but I am not sure of the possibility.

My aim is to continue been positive and pray for divine intervention.

Sorry for your pain. My lady friend, now 28 years old has been though a similar process; all the things you have gone through so far, she has. Good thing for her however, is that after about a year and a half she had the surgery at UHWI, which went well. She is now, in my estimation much better, but still has bouts of pain and dis comfort. She would probably love to share with you. Stay strong.
